The mockingbird is still singing in the palm tree.
There was a dragonfly behaving very oddly in the backyard today. It would fly around, land in random spots, and appeared to try to push the end of its body into the dirt. If I didn’t know dragonflies lay their eggs in water, I would have thought it was laying eggs in the ground. Here’s the dragonfly poking the end of its body (upper right) through leaves and plants.

The dragonfly is a Common Green Darner, one of the ones that migrate. I am not sure what it was doing, but it was a really interesting observation.

I was puzzled watching this dragonfly. It was moving from place to place and definitely pushing the end of its body into the dirt. Once it looked like there was a bit of dirt/sand pushed aside. Since it’s a dragonfly I know it wouldn’t be possible, but it sure looked like an insect laying eggs.
