The first birds I saw today were a pair of Mourning doves sitting on wire out front in the rain. One of the doves was puffed up and looking as if it was barely tolerating the weather. There are raindrops dripping off its toes.

The other dove was doing some stretching exercises, including this one legged pose.

The weather slowly improved during the day and we even got some sun toward the end. In the backyard I saw this female cardinal grooming her wing.

And there was a male cardinal that moved from place to place, singing all the time. Here he is at the very top of a tree.

Same cardinal in another tree.

And about to take off here.

I heard him singing but couldn’t see him in these branches until his red head poked out from behind a small tree trunk.

And then back up into another tree to sing some more.
