Big dark shadows crossing the yard alerted me to Turkey Vultures soaring overhead. There were about six or seven of them when I went out with the camera–three of them together in this photo.

The Turkey Vulture is a large bird, with a body length of over 2 feet and a wingspan of 5 1/2 feet. It has a bare red head and a dark brownish body, with lighter colored silvery feathers on the rear edge of its wings.

As I watched them the group of vultures flew in circles in the sky, and then gradually separated and went off in different directions.
