This morning I watched this squirrel dig up an acorn and carry it up onto the fence. During the winter I’d seen squirrels carrying acorns into the backyard and burying them–now this squirrel was coming back for some.

Another shot of the squirrel enjoying the acorn.

A pair of Mourning doves landed on the fence and sat there for awhile. The dove on the right was busy grooming and fluffing itself, which is why it looks twice the size of the other dove.

Then the dove on the left looked over at the fluffed-up dove, and appeared to be amused at its partner’s appearance.

After the doves left, a mockingbird showed up with a bit of string in its mouth. The little brown star-like things on the string are tiny dead flowers from one of the trees.

It must be nest-building time.
