This squirrel was out in the yard with the birds today, busy digging up acorns from last winter.

The squirrel poked around and dug in various spots.

Sometimes it didn’t succeed in finding anything.

So it would look around some more.

And eventually the squirrel would come up with an acorn.

After enjoying several acorns, the squirrel retreated to a tree overhead.

A pretty female Red-bellied Woodpecker stopped by the palm trees this afternoon. In this photo you can see the wash of red over the bird’s belly that gives it its name.

You can tell this is a female because the very top of her head is tan, while the top of a male’s head is red. Both male and female are red on the back of the head and nape of the neck.
