We had a very noisy and animated young mockingbird on the fence today.

The bird hopped around, changed positions, and called out often.

Still hopping and yelling on the fence.

And one more of the mockingbird.

This pretty little butterfly is called a Red-Banded Hairstreak. It was sitting on a leaf on a tree branch at about my eye level, and it was rubbing its wings together. The wing-rubbing is a characteristic of butterflies in the Hairstreak family and is believed to attract predators toward the back of the butterfly’s body instead of its head.

One anole today. She’s an assertive young female, doing some push-ups and even raising a bit of a crest along her neck and back as she watched me take photos.

Last for today is Sophie, intently studying something across the yard.
