I saw some small birds moving around the fence and palm trees in the backyard and went out to investigate. When I got closer the birds had all disappeared though I could hear them calling. I looked up into a palm tree and saw this.

Small gray and white bird with big dark eyes, a dark forehead, and buff coloring on the flanks–it had to be a Tufted Titmouse. A moment later one of the little birds flew down out of the tree and perched on a fallen palm frond under the tree.

Yes, definitely a Tufted Titmouse. It stayed there on the palm frond for several minutes and didn’t seem to mind the camera.

Just looking around.

It almost seemed to be posing for me.

I think I like this one best.

Then it flew back up into the palm tree, and the group of little birds flew off together.

Fence in the backyard, just weathered and worn but looking like it’s striped.

And a dragonfly sitting on a wire out front. Not a great shot, but I was surprised to get this much detail with the insect way up on the wire.
