Early this morning I saw a small bird on and around the pool steps. It turned out to be a little Carolina wren.

It looks like there are feathers growing in, so it could be a young bird.

The little wren hopped around, looking curiously at everything. It looked down under the steps.

And up above.

It went out to the end of the step and seemed to be thinking of flying off.

But just before it did, it turned and looked back at me.

Over on the gate I found the bossy young anole continuing his efforts to drive away all the other little anoles.

This little guy has a curly tail. A very curly tail–more curly than I can remember seeing on a brown anole.

He sat near the top of the gate, guarding his territory, and he was quick to run down to chase off other anoles. I’ll keep checking on this situation.

Over on the tomato pot I saw this big male anole sitting in the sun and displaying his dewlap. The sunlight came through his dewlap, making a spot of orange light on the pot rim beside him.

And last for today–a bee that appears to be cheerfully waving from its position among the wildflowers. (It may actually be another type of bee-like insect–it definitely wasn’t a honey bee.)
