I was out near the palm trees today when I noticed a green anole on its way up a palm tree. It was moving up the tree carefully, ducking under the bases of trimmed fronds. Although it’s brown at the moment, it can change its color to a bright light green. Brown anoles, on the other hand, don’t change colors–they may look lighter or darker, but stay in the brown/gray range.

And onward up the tree.

I lost track of the anole for a moment, until I noticed a tail hanging out.

The green anole chose an awkward spot to emerge again–right next to a dewlap-displaying brown anole. The green anole stayed away from the brown anole, and promptly moved on.

In the meantime, the green anole was continuing on up the tree. By this time it was about at my eye level.
