There were a half-dozen butterflies in the Sophie and Lulu Garden this afternoon–the garden my next door neighbor named in memory of my girls. Most of them were Gulf Fritillaries.

They are mostly orange and black on the tops of the wings, but the undersides have lots of white spots.

I had to look this butterfly up to identify it, and I believe it’s a Sleepy Orange butterfly. There were several Sleepy Oranges in the garden too.

Another Sleep Orange butterfly.

Sunset this evening. No big pine tree anymore, but there are still some trees farther off in the west.
