I learned a little more about the duck we ran into yesterday at the community college. It is a domesticated Muscovy duck, as I thought, living on the campus along with some other Muscovy ducks.

A bird person who lives in our area said that she has Muscovy ducks and that they like to nest in her bushes and flower beds. She suggested that the duck we saw had a nest in the bushes. This would explain why the duck was there to start with, and why it ran back under the bushes as Max and I left the area. I’ll be watching for this duck when we go walking there again.
