Thursday Photos

Every day I see a few red leaves on the Virginia creeper vines on the fence, but there won’t be many more–almost all the leaves have fallen. These leaves give us our brightest fall color around here.

Three for Wednesday

Flowers by the fence at the back of the yard.

Tiny insects in a group on the shed door–probably newly hatched and still all together. They look like leaf-footed bugs, but I’m not sure.

And one anole for today, this big guy on the birdbath.

A Few for Tuesday

Little anole up on top of the fence in the afternoon sun.

This anole was sitting on a rake handle near the gate.

These green leaves have a heavy quilted look. They’ll start showing bits of yellow and brown along their edges soon.

My favorite photo today–a dead leaf caught on a strand of a spider web. I like the dark colors in this photo, the sense of fall arriving, and the almost magical way the leaf is poised in mid-air.

Monday Photos

One of the last of the trumpet flowers on the fence. There’s a tiny fly on the edge of the petal on the lower right.

Richard came out to play today, and Richard and Sophie met at the fence.

As usual, Sophie stood looking forlornly after Richard when he went back inside.

Lulu was outside too, but not very interested in Richard. She looks very, very sad here, but actually she was studying me carefully to see if I was carrying any more dog cookies.

I was happy to see this green anole on the fence today. I see more brown anoles than green anoles.

When I came home from work today a brown anole came into the house with me when I opened the door. They do get into the house sometimes, and I always try to rescue them and get  them back outside quickly. This anole darted out of sight behind some furniture, but about 10 minutes later I saw it on the floor near the door. I opened the door and was able to shoo it out. It was a relief to see it safely back outside!

Anoles and Bees on Sunday

It was sunny today, and anoles were out enjoying the warmth. Soon I won’t be seeing as many of them as the weather gets chillier. This little one was climbing on the fence.

And this young brown anole with a bright red head was looking out of the tomato pot.

It turned to look at the camera.

Sun shining on a leaf. We probably have another month and a half before all of the leaves on this tree turn yellow and fall.

Another Carpenter bee came along and wanted a look at what the first bee was doing.

I don’t know if it will come across in this photo, but this anole in the basil plants had a definite (and unusual) pale blue tint to the lighter colored areas on its body.

 

Saturday Photos

Just a few again for today.

There were a few brown anoles out today, and this one sat still on the fence long enough for a few photos.

It was probably a female, or maybe a young male–it put on a little display with a dewlap flash, but it had a small dewlap.

A Few for Friday

Just a few for today. Sunlight was brightening the face of this little brown anole.

And this one’s face was mostly in shadow, under the edge of the tray in the birdbath.

Thursday Photos

More fall leaves on a vine on the fence.

Another wildflower like the one I photographed yesterday, but no ants on this one.

I saw a few anoles today–a green anole that disappeared before I could get a photo, and a couple of brown anoles. This one was sitting on the gate.

And this one was up on the fence. It’s the one with lots of orange/red on its body.

Lulu and Flowers on Wednesday

Lulu came outside with Sophie and me this afternoon. She ambled around for awhile before she sat down and posed for me. When she looks at me like this, I have to give her a hug and some petting

Lulu soon tired of her photo session.

When I looked closely at this little wildflower, I saw that ants were busily running up around the blossom.

Tuesday Photos

Wilting star flowers on a rainy afternoon. These flowers only bloom for one day anyway, but the rain is hastening the end of the blooms.

A pretty little wildflower, only about 3/4 inch across.

A couple of the remaining leaves turning red on the fence.

A spider on a red-leafed vine. It looks like the spider I photographed a couple of days ago, but it’s in a whole different part of the yard and I don’t think spiders move around that much. Probably just another of the same kind of spider.

Same spider, underexposed photo. I was about to delete it, but the darkness gives it a spooky Halloween feel.
